Can you accept what you don’t understand, in the absence of proof? Mystical is when we accept our instinct, revelation, intuition or any form of just knowing. Mysticism is the claim to the perception of some other reality. A reality other than the one in which we live, whose definition is only that it is not natural. It is supernatural, and is to be perceived by some form of unnatural or supernatural means.
Events of the supernatural, in years gone by, were thought to be the action of mystical, or supernatural forces beyond that of the physical world. Many events were beyond rational explanation, due to the primitive knowledge of the physical world available to the people at that time. They believed that all physical events, from the movement of planets to the arrangement of tea leaves in an empty teacup, to mystical or supernatural forces. Only when things are investigated is knowledge extended.
Some have said that mysticism draws people away from the sacramental life of the church. This is not true as a sense of God’s abiding presence in nature, self, and community is an essential part of liturgy. The prayer of most of the great mystics was nourished by the liturgy, similarly there is every reason to think that experiences of intense mystical union with God enhances one’s appreciation and celebration of the church’s sacraments.
The true Mystic believes in miracles, in the perpetual openness of the human mind, the power of nature, in inspiration and in ecstasy … a person who is involved in mystical experiences creates self esteem within their spirit. It gives one respect for himself and frees a person from dependence on positive evaluations from others. They believe in the unknown and the power of Serendipity.
A belief in the Mystical is simply an art of knowing and finding the answers within one self. The mystical experience transcends nature. You may receive a feeling that far surpasses anything which could be conveyed by words. This insight, devoid of ego, is thoroughly comprehended as truthful.
