The most important part of prayer is what we feel, not what we say. We spend a great deal of time telling God what we think should be done, and not enough time waiting in the stillness for God to tell us what to do. ~ Peace Pilgrim (Peace Pilgrim: Her Life and Work in Her Own Words) ~
True Silence is the rest of the Mind, and is to the Spirit, what Sleep is to the Body, Nourishment and Refreshment. It is a great Virtue; it covers Folly, keeps Secrets, avoids Disputes, and prevents Sin. ~William Penn (1644–1718),
Silence is a way of reaching another part of your mind, not possible when you are going about your daily routine. When you are not distracted by noise or goal-orientated tasks, there appears to be a quiet time that allows your conscious workspace to process things. During these periods of silence, your brain has the freedom it needs to discover its place in your internal and external world.
The default mode of silence helps you think about profound things in an imaginative way. Like every muscle in our body our mind needs to be trained to relax and to be silent. Such silence is rejuvenating, is empowering, is healing, is making whole.
