When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. ~ Helen Keller
Don’t look back. Life is in the present. Happiness will come your way when you least expect it. Real opportunities for happiness are the ones that we don’t immediately see. They come by at the most unexpected, mostly inopportune, times. We are so obsessed with other distractions or our own opinions that we normally miss opportunities for happiness that falls across our path.
The door to happiness is not locked. But you have to open the door for yourself, no one can do it for you. If we have to open the door ourselves, how do we go about it? People choose how they want to feel. When we stop thinking of ourselves as victims that things happen to, we can begin to exert control over our world. We can open the doors to happiness. We can accept people as they are without judgment, knowing that they are in process, just as we are. Be willing to entertain new ideas, even if we decide later that we don’t agree with them.
Joy doesn’t have to be big. Joy can be found in small, daily things. Laugh for no reason. Look for the beauty and joy in every day experiences. We are responsible for creating our own happiness. It is a state of mind that we can control and we get better with practice. We will all find happiness in different places and in different ways.
