Dropping our illusions is a healing in itself. Within each of us there is a core – our essence, our true being. That is the place of God who is within us. Finding that essence is our return to God. It is the purpose of our lives, and even our most painful experiences can serve that purpose. ~ Marianne Williamson ~
Authenticity is about being genuine and real, says Mike Robbins, a corporate trainer and the author of Be Yourself, Everyone Else Is Already Taken. It allows us to connect deeply with others because it requires us to be transparent and vulnerable.
When we become willing to experience what is real, we shed the dead weight of all our illusions. Throughout our life, we learned to move away from love and move towards fear. To be free, we must now move towards that love, again. It will not be easy, but it is necessary. We have spent so much time and energy creating and maintaining the illusion of who we are supposed to be, that we’ve lost sight of who we really are.
The process of coming to embrace yourself wholly and completely requires great sensitivity, patience and courage. We move past the old way of thinking and feeling that was based on manipulation and control, and embrace a new way of being based on trust and faith. As we learn to honor who we are, we will then be able to honor and respect others. Everyone we meet ill reflect back to us what we believe about ourselves. We then learn to forgive. We understand that despite our mistakes, we are worthy of love.
