The practice of forgiveness is our most important contribution to the healing of the world.
~ Marianne Williamson ~
Forgiveness would be simple if we only had to grant it to those who come asking for it in sorrow and repentance. But things don’t work that way. Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. It is important to let go of deeply held negative feelings. It does not mean you must forget your feelings. You recognize the pain you suffered and make a point of not letting that pain define you. It is the happy people that forgive.
Holding a grudge makes us less likely to interact with friends who have hurt or disappointed us, but we don’t want to lose that friendship. Move away from the role as victim. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. If you can forgive, you will be able to feel more positive towards that person who hurt you. It’s time to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. Don’t let it grip you by holding grudges. We don’t need that stress and anxiety. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. The Bible tells us that we are to forgive, without condition, those who sin against us. Refusing to truly forgive a person demonstrates resentment, bitterness, and anger, none of which are the traits of a true Christian. To err is human; to forgive, Divine.
“When we think we have been hurt by someone in the past, we build up defenses to protect ourselves from being hurt in the future. So the fearful past causes a fearful future and the past and future become one. We cannot love when we feel fear…. When we release the fearful past and forgive everyone, we will experience total love and oneness with all.” ~ Gerald G. Jampolsky ~
