Never explain – your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway. ~ Elbert Hubbard ~
Sometimes, you would very much like to have an open discussion (where both people state their opinions without belittling the other person’s point of view), but the person you are talking with chooses to have a one-sided discussion, refusing to hear your point of view.
People too often assume that anyone who disagrees with them is trying to change their mind, where in reality, some people genuinely want to have an open discussion and exchange ideas. We make our best decisions when we ask for others’ opinions on the subject. Some find this annoying and disrespectful if we do not take their advice, while others understand we just want to analyze our many options and make the best possible decision to avoid making mistakes. If we are able to get as many views from others as possible, we are more likely to make the right decision, then there is no explanation necessary.
