We all have our own personal standards by which we live our life. If we compromise our standards for any reason, it will reflect on our emotions. This can violate our inner sense of what is right and what is wrong. Unfortunately, we are earning our own disapproval when we do this.
Be true to your values to avoid inner conflicts. We all want to be treated with respect and consideration. But it sends mixed signals to our nervous system if we treat people differently then we want them to treat us. There is no way to justify this hypocrisy going on in our brain when this happens. This can cause depression and sadness.
“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.” ― Ming-Dao Deng, Everyday Tao: Living with Balance and Harmony
We must show consideration for those around us if we expect to receive consideration in return. It is important to be true to you and your values. Think of what you would want in a good friend… then be that person.
