Happiness is a spiritual experience. Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes cannot be found outside the mind. The real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we shall be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions, but if it is disturbed or troubled in any way, we shall never be happy, no matter how good our external conditions may be.
If you do what you love, if you follow your bliss and listen to your heart, success and happiness should follow. There are no shortcuts, but you must keep the faith and believe that doing what you love will bring rewards. Mark Twain once said that the more enjoyment you get out of your work, the more money you will make. Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy what you are doing. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace, and if you have that, you will have more success than you could possibly have imagined. Work at your job or career for the pure joy of what you are accomplishing, and if you do it for joy, you can do it forever.
