Allowing Love: A Prayer for Receiving and Sharing Care

girl and butterfly

Allowing love can be as simple, and as difficult, as receiving a kindness without immediately explaining why you do not deserve it. You may be accustomed to helping others while finding it hard to accept help yourself.

This prayer offers space to receive care with gratitude and to share it with honesty. Love does not require you to abandon a needed boundary or agree to every request.

A prayer for receiving and sharing love

Loving God, help me recognize care when it is offered. Give me courage to receive a kind word, accept useful help, and ask for company when I need it.

Help my actions express the love I speak about. Let me listen with patience, respect another person’s freedom, and keep the promises I make. Where trust has been hurt, give me wisdom about the next responsible step.

Remind me that I do not have to earn your love through a perfect performance. Let gratitude make room for generosity, and let generosity remain gentle and honest. Amen.

Notice one kindness you might otherwise dismiss

Think of a recent offer of care. Was it welcome? If so, could you acknowledge it with a simple thank-you? You do not need to minimize someone’s effort or promise an immediate favor in return.

If the offer was not right for you, a respectful refusal can also be honest. Receiving love includes being able to say what kind of help you actually need.

Let the prayer become a small choice

Choose one act of attention today: ask how someone is doing, thank a friend specifically, or accept a practical offer you would usually wave away. In Christian life, grace can be a reminder that receiving comes before proving ourselves worthy.
