We can control our thoughts, both positive and negative. Some thoughts can make us smile, relax, feel frustrated, depressed and some can make us feel confident. Most of the time, our thoughts control how we are feeling, and we don’t even realize it. Every feeling we have is the direct result of something we were thinking. Thoughts can be our best friends and our worst enemies.
We create the world in which we live. If we change the way we look at things, the things we look at will change. Life doesn’t have to be a struggle, things don’t need to be more difficult than they are, because you can change how you think. Learn how to control your thoughts as opposed to your thoughts controlling you.
There are many things we can’t control. Don’t obsess about these things (e.g.: the weather, the news, politics, etc.) It always helps to talk to a friend or family member about things you can’t seem to clear away. This will get them out in the open and give you a fresh perspective on the issue. Many spiritual practices recommend staying in the moment to promote inner peace and clarity.
You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think. ~ Marianne Williamson (A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”)
