The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. ~~ Mahatma Gandhi ~~ It is a weakness of your human nature to hate those whom you have wronged. ~~ Publius Cornelius Tacitus ~
Pride and Guilt can cause insignificant events to seem larger than life. Someone may say something to you and cause you to be offended. You take offense and look for revenge. This can destroy marriages, friendships and families. When we have been caused pain that we consider deep and unfair, we might wonder with sadness, how they could do this to us. When we don’t forgive people, we only make ourselves sick.
The beginning of forgiveness is eliminating the anger. Anger is our way of discovering the pain so we can deal with it. When we discover the pain of betrayal, the pain of guilt or fear, it is then that we will be able to understand the cause of our pain. Once we understand, magically the anger begins to fade. Resentful, bitter, hateful people aren’t much fun to be around. Don’t be one of them. Lack of forgiveness will eat you alive. It causes emotional and physical problems. Our emotions make something that is really insigificant seem larger than life. We need to express our emotions without taking offense. If we need to say something to another person who is doing us wrong, make sure to only criticize the actual deed and never attack personally the other person. Don’t let your emotions lead the way in any conversation.
It is never too late to take responsibility and say that you are sorry about something you did wrong. It is never too late to mend a broken relationship, if that is what you truly want to do. Always take the time to listen to someone who needs to apologize to you. Then if you need to walk away, you will at least be at peace.
