Halloween is celebrated by millions of people in multiple countries as a fun time for kids and adults alike. Halloween rules the 31st of October, casting its spell, with its historical roots to its modern celebrations. What began long ago as a Druid festival may hold different meanings for different people, but one thing that most can agree on is the fact that no other holiday is as magical and mysterious as Halloween.

Origin of Halloween —
The true origin of Halloween was to acknowledge and honor the spirit, a remembrance of all the physical lives and experiences souls have had on Earth. It was also a time to aid any soul that might be stuck on the physical plane to go into the light (return Home).
In ancient Ireland, people thought that ghosts and spirits roamed after dark on Halloween. They lit candles and lanterns to keep the spirits away, and if they had to go outside, they wore costumes and masks to frighten the spirits or to keep from being recognized by these unearthly beings.
Witches and Halloween —
Witches and Halloween go hand-in-hand. In the Middle Ages, every witch was believed to own an animal, usually a black cat, dog or bird. They were known as the “old one” and the “Earth Mother,” who symbolized wisdom, change, and the turning of the seasons. Black is a color embraced by many contemporary witches, not for its association with evil, but rather for its magical ability to counteract evil, and neutralize negative energy.
Some believe fairies are drawn together in large numbers on Halloween. They gather to protect children from witches and goblins. For twenty-four hours, these Halloween Fairies protect the children from the un-dead, who try to create havoc among the living.

The Colors of Halloween —
One of Halloween’s traditional colors, orange, reflects the ancient connection to agriculture and its celebration as a pre-Christian harvest festival. Orange, the color of pumpkins and autumn leaves, evoking the spirit of the fall season. It is a lively color that celebrates life.
Many people burn black candles for protection, reflection, yang energy and wisdom. The color black corresponds to the sign of Capricorn. Black candles are used in many cultures to banish negativity. Black candles enhance spiritual energies. An essential oil should be rubbed on the wax of the candle before burning to increase its effectiveness. Saturday is the most powerful day for burning your black candle. Burning of this candle can also help break a bad habit or mark the end of a phase in your life that has not been good for you.
The Jack-O-Lantern —
Another ancient tradition is one of our most famous icons of the holiday: the Jack-O-Lantern. Originating from Irish folklore, the Jack-O-Lantern was used as a light for the lost soul of Jack, a notorious trickster, stuck between worlds. Jack is said to have tricked the devil into a truck of a tree and by carving an image of a cross in the tree’s trunk, he trapped the devil there. His pranks denied him access to Heaven, and having angered the devil, also to Hell, so Jack was a lost soul, trapped between worlds. He whined to the devil that, trapped, he had no light. The devil tossed him an amber, he carved out the first Jack-O-Lantern out of a turnip, put the ember inside of it, and endlessly wandered the earth.
Trick or Treating —
The tradition of Trick or Treating resembles the last medieval Christian practice of “souling” when the poor would go door to door on Hallowman (Nov. 1) receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (Nov 2). Families would give them a pastry called “soul cakes” in return for prayers for the family’s dead loved ones.

Halloween is the time of year when the veil separating the spirit world from our own is at its most vulnerable. On this day, spirits have an easier time making their presence known. The Spiritual Séance —
GETTING STARTED: The purpose of a Séance is to contact the dead. Ask Spirits in a respectful manner to join the Séance. Request that only well-intentioned spirits join the Séance. If you are using a devise like an Ouija board, ask them to speak through the board as you touch it. An Ouija board is the best means to convert the energy of a spirit to words. (If not using an Ouija board, a leader needs to be chosen and the spirit is invited to talk through them.) This is the time to summon specific spirits by name.
CALLING THE SPIRITS: Summon the spirit(s) by chanting in unison: “Spirits of the past, move among us. Be guided by the light of this world and visit upon us.” If you are wishing to contact a relative or friend, you may chant something like this: “Beloved (name), we bring you gifts from life into death. Be guided by the light of this world and visit upon us.”
WATCH AND WAIT: Begin asking questions. Yes or no questions work the best and produce the best results. First ask, “Is there anyone here who wishes to speak with us?” Then ask your questions. Be persistent, have patience and a willingness to discover. Continue the Séance as long as you’re still receiving answers. The Séance will be broken if anyone leaves the circle at this time.
RECORDINGS: Audio Recording Devises are encouraged. This adds another layer of communication. If there were multiple recording devices in the room and you her a voice or a sound, see if it appears on any of the other recorders.
THANK THE SPIRITS: If you sense a negative spirit, say thank you and ask them to leave. Give the Séance closure by thanking the spirits for coming when you are ready to stop. When ending the Séance, always end with a protection prayer.
